Disabling IE Enhanced Security Configuration

When developing for SharePoint it’s common to run some flavour of Windows Server. Starting with Windows Server 2003 Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration is enabled by default. Whilst useful for production boxes this is one of the first things to turn off on a development machine in order to preserve your sanity.

Windows Server 2003

  • Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs

  • Click Add / Remove Windows Components

win2003_windowscomponents

  • Uncheck Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration
  • Click Next
  • Once the wizard finishes click Finish

Windows Server 2008

  • Launch Server Manager

win2008_server_manager

  • Expand the Server Summary > Security Information heading
  • Click Configure IE ESC

win2008_esc_dialog

  • Select the Off radio buttons
  • Click OK
